What’s changing and what’s not!
In the autumn 2024 I will start the job of closing down my current flower field and setting up a new one in Elsworth, Cambs at Frank’s Farm.
Moving the flower field to a new location is a massive job and not one that I would have chosen. But as all small business owners will say, resilience is key and you have to move forwards irrespective of what is thrown at you.
Don’t get me wrong. I have shed plenty of tears at the thought of digging up my hard work from the past years, and just how hard it’s going to be to start again. But whilst setting up a new site from scratch is tough, I do have a loyal following of engaged customers who are interested in British flowers and in my business. So, it’s not entirely starting from scratch like back in 2019 when I launched Nature’s Posy.
The move is an opportunity to re-focus my business on the areas that I love and leave behind some of those areas that I’m less keen on.
Here is what will be happening;
Staying more or less the same;
THE FLOWERS!! – The new space will give me a similar growing area, so I will have roughly the same output (around 1,000 stems per week). I’ll continue to grow the sorts of flowers I do now, subject to the different micro-climate, pests etc; so the quality and variety of flowers will be the same.
Workshops – There will be a mix of workshops based at the flower field and some held elsewhere. For those who love flower picking this will continue to be a central element of the field-based workshops. For those who love arranging, or have limited mobility for walking in the field there will be workshops in other locations.
Gift bouquets – These will continue in exactly the same way as now (although my free delivery zone will change)
Flower arranger buckets and subscriptions – No change here either!
Grow your own – The grow your own workshops that started in 2024 will be continuing and hopefully expanding over the coming years
Xmas wreath kits – it wouldn’t be xmas without making one of my wreaths!! At least that’s what I know many of you say, so wreath kits will continue. Workshops are taking a break in 2024 but will be back in 2025. You can still purchase a ready-made wreath too!
Changing;
Weddings – A big change. I will continue to offer bouquets and button holes but for the moment I will be cutting down on the amount of other floristry that I offer (such as milk churns, table centrepieces etc). Delivery of bouquets will be more restrictive than currently and you may need to collect your bouquets from me, depending on the date of your wedding.
Buckets for DIY weddings will be available and there are new courses and 1-2-1 support available to help you to create your own wedding flowers.
Until I am satisfied that the supply of flowers is secure I will not be booking any weddings into the diary.
Pick your own – Currently just run on a Weds, this will be massively expanded. You will be able to come and pick flowers much more regularly, on different days of the week and including drop in sessions with no need to book on selected weekends.
Funeral flowers – I will no longer be offering any funeral or memorial flowers, except in very exceptional circumstances.
Florists – I will only be supplying a very limited number of stems to florists but I will be supporting floristry students wishing to experiment and/or learn about working with British flowers.
I hope that you’ll continue to follow this next step in my adventure!
